About the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida

Construction on the Amalie Arena began in October 1996 and the full project took some $139 million to complete. Capable of holding over 20,000 individuals, the stadium was once referred to as the Ice Palace and is home to the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL team and the Tampa Bay Storm AFL team. When it was originally built the arena was called the Ice Palace but in 2002 the St. Petersburg Times bought the naming rights of the stadium and renamed it the St. Pete Times Forum before renaming it the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Then in 2014, the stadium was renamed yet again to the Amalie Arena when the naming rights were given to the Amalie Oil Company.
